Ralph is well known for his extensive knowledge of English Silver and his almost magical ability to acquire the most desirable pieces made by the Master Silversmiths including: Omar Ramsden, Paul Storr, Henry William Dee, Philip Rundell, Sampson Mordan, Nathaniel Mills, Hester Bateman, Gilbert Marks, Robert Garrard, Thomas Johnson, Leslie Durbin, Charles Kandler, Henry George Murphy, Liberty & Co. and E. H. Stockwell.

Within six months of leaving school Ralph Holt was extremely fortunate to find himself employed by one of the most highly regarded members in the Antique Silver world, John Bourdon-Smith. Ralph broadened his interests, particularly those relating to twentieth century silver (20th century silverware). It was at this time that Ralph first began to focus on the works of the master goldsmith and silversmith Omar Ramsden.
